Monday, May 2 1663

This day William Bristow, Fanny his wife and William and Samuel their children were brought home by an order of two of his Majesty’s justices of the peace to this parish by the overseer of the poor of the parish of Heathfield.

I dined on the remains of yesterday’s dinner with the addition of a light pudding and some greens. At home all day and pretty busy. In the evening wrote my London letters.

The man’s wife who was brought home today drank tea with me. Rec’d of W. Wakeling 20/- on account of arrears of rent due from the heirs of George Deering on account of myself and the other executors and devisees of Mr William Piper.
