Sunday, May 1 1763

No service at our church in the morning, Mr Porter being not at home. Mrs Burgess, widow in the street, being taken with an apoplectic fit today, Mr Stone was sent for to her and called on me and let my blood.

I dined on a beef pudding and greens. Mr Griffiths, curate at Ripe, preached at our church in the afternoon. My servant only at church. Thomas Durrant, having taken physic today, sat with me during service. Sam Jenner drank tea with me, to whom in the evening I read two of Tillotson’s sermons. It being late when I was bleeded, and being as it were alone, Sam Jenner stayed all night with me.

In the afternoon died the widow Burgess, aged 80 years and 11 months.
