At home all day. In the afternoon posted my day book. We dined on a hand of pork boiled and some carrots. Oh, my troubled mind feels but little comfort. Dame Watford drank tea at our house in the afternoon.

In the morning my wife and self at church… We dined on the remains of yesterday’s dinner with the addition of some onion sauce. No service at our church in the afternoon, Mr Porter preaching at Chiddingly. My wife and self drank tea at Master Durrant’s. In the evening read one of Tillotson’s sermons.

…In the afternoon walked down to Richard Page’s. Lent John Streeter the post in cash 1.1.0… I gave my brother 8d, it being the half of the packing fleece given us by Mr Peckham., My wife drank tea at Mrs Weller’s. In the evening sent down to Jones’s to a public vestry where was Mr Piper, Joseph and Thomas Fuller, Richard Page and myself. We came home about 9:40. Thomas Davy at our house in the evening…

…Paid my brother 19/- for a piece of poking bagging which he brought me today, and then he gave ne 15¾d for the carriage of the oast hair… In the afternoon walked down to Richard Page’s. In the evening Joseph Fuller Jr smoked a pipe with me.

We dined on a piece of pork, a light pudding and some carrots… At home all day. In the evening Joseph Fuller smoked a pipe with me. A very high wind almost all day.

…In the afternoon I assisted Mr French in carrying a load or 2 of oats. Lent him in cash 7/6. In the evening Thomas Davy rode my horse to Uckfield and brought me home 8½ ells bagging, for which he paid 5/6, and which money I gave him, also 2d for the turnpike. In the evening my wife read part of Salmon On Marriage to me; and in the day I read part of The Peerage of England. Rec’d of John Streeter the guinea I lent him the 4^th instant.

…We dined on a damson batter pudding. A very wet forenoon. John Tickner of Lewes breakfasted with us. At home all day. In the evening read one of Tillotson’s sermons… My wife ill with a cold. In the evening sold Mr Porter’s pole puller’s neckcloth, which was a silent company this time in comparison of what we have had some years past.

We dined on a light pudding and some beans… My brother came over in the afternoon, but did not stay. I paid him 6/6 for 3½ yds swanskin received of my mother. At home all day. In the evening read 2 of Tillotson’s sermons. My wife very ill with a cold.

Paid Joseph Fuller by his son Thomas 3½d for 1 lb mutton received by him today. Myself at church in the morning (my wife staying at home on account of her cold)… We dined on the 1 lb of mutton stewed, with some carrots. In the afternoon Thomas Davy and I walked over to Waldron Church where we heard a fine sermon preached by the Rev Mr Delves, rector of that parish and Frant, from the 15th verse of the 2nd chapter of the Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans: “Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another.” Thomas Davy came home along with me and drank some coffee with us and stayed the evening, to whom I read one of Tillotson’s sermons. In the day read part of Hervey’s Theron and Aspasio.

James Marchant, John Babcock and Thomas Davy at work for me part of the forenoon in helping me remove earthenware from out of the garret to the school-house to prevent its being broken by the workmen who are a-going to new heal this house.

Thomas Davy and John Babcock breakfasted with us, and James Marchant and Thomas Davy dined with us on part of a neck of mutton boiled, a piece of pork and some carrots. My father Slater called to see us in the forenoon, but did not stay any time… At home all day. In the evening Thomas Davy rode over to Framfield for me. In the evening read part of Salmon On Marriage…
