At home all day; very busy. Paid Richard Hope 0.2.0¾ for a sparerib, weight 8¼ lbs. After supper read part of Tournefort’s Voyage. Paid 12d for bread etc.

Sunday, April 27 1755

At home all day but not at church. Mr Tucker came to see me. I lent him in cash 3.3.0. After Mr Tucker went away my wife and I went for a walk. Called and stayed some time at John Watford’s.

Tuesday, April 29 1755

Sent by Dann in cash £24 to Messrs Margesson and Collison; drew on them to 30 days’ date to Messrs Grant, Barlow and Wigginton for £30 and to Mr John Crouch, 21 days’ date, £10, Rec’d of Master Harman 0.6.9½ in full for Master Card. Rec’d of Bridgman 3/2 in full.

Friday, May 2 1755

At home all day. Paid Mr Dann £16, which with £24 I gave him 29th April makes £40, which sum he paid Messrs Margesson and Collison for me.

Sunday, May 4 1755

At church forenoon and afternoon; the text 3rd chapter, 2nd Epistle to Timothy, 15th verse, both times. In the afternoon gave Francis Smith 2.2.0 in part for carriage, which with £2 I paid him before makes 4.2.0 paid him on account. In the evening my wife and I went up to John Vine Jr’s; came home about 9 o’clock.

Monday, May 5 1755

At home all day. Paid the post 4/6 for 6 pairs of women’s cloth pattens received of Thomas Freeman today. Rec’d of Dame Pilbull 2/1 in full. Paid for bread etc. 18d. In the evening after supper read part of Tournefort’s 2nd volume of A Voyage into the Levant.
