Very bad with a swelled face. Sam Slater came for Nanny; he breakfasted and dined with us. I received a letter which informed me of my mother’s cruelty against my wife and self. Freely forgave her and am willing to serve her to the utmost of my power, but came to a resolution to keep Will Cripps no longer.

Sam and Ann Slater went from Hoathly after dinner. I at home all day. Read part of Hervey’s Meditations.
