At home all day. Samuel Slater came to see us. Gave Bonwick’s carter 12d. Busy all day.

At home all day and busy. Delivered the Duke [of Newcastle]’s bill [in full] to this day to Mrs Coates, amount 3.9.2¼.

At home all day. Read part of the second volume of Gay’s poems. Wrote out part of Smart’s poem on Omniscience. Samuel Slater went home.

Got up in the morning. Finished Smart’s poem on Omniscience and began his poem on Power.

Paid Francis Smith in part for carriage 10/-. At home all day. In the evening read part of the second volume of Gay’s poems. Paid for meat 19½d.

At home all day. At church in the morning. The tax [text] was in the 4th Psalm and 6th verse; the subject: all men endeavor after happiness, but plainly and clearly demonstrate that there is no true happiness to be found, but only by such as live in the true faith and fare [fear] of God.

Mr Tucker and Mr Scrase dined and spent the afternoon with me. Paid Mr Scrase by bill and cash 8.9.6, which sum he paid Dr Snelling for me. In the evening finished Smart’s poem On The Power of the Supreme Being. Read part of The Whole Duty of Man and Milton’s Paradise Lost.
