Myself only at church in the morning… Mr Tipper and Sam Jenner dined with me on a shoulder of mutton roasted, plain rice and a lamb’s heart pudding and green salad.
After dinner we set out for Lewes, I having some business there, and also to accompany Mr Tipper. I stayed and did my business and came home sober about 10:20. Spent today on myself, horse and ostler 10d. Myself not at church in the afternoon. The retrospect view of one’s actions does not yield half the pleasure it formerly did in a married state.

In the forenoon rode up to Edward Hope’s, but did not stay. A very wet day; so I did not proceed on my intended journey. My late servant stayed and dined with me on a piece of bacon and light pudding. She also stayed and drank tea with me and then went home. At home most part of the day. Very busy all day.
