At home all day. My brother and Mr Bowman dined with us. Mr Bowman stayed and smoked a pipe with me. Rec’d ½ bushel wheat of William Sinden. The Halland gardener cut my grape-vine and drank tea with us. Thomas Davy supped with us and he and I played at cribbage; I won 1d. I paid him 13d for my share of Martin’s Magazine; that is, 1d per piece over half price, on account of their being to be mine. Paid for milk ½d.

At home all day… After breakfast Mr Collison went to Framfield. Gave John Gibbs 1d for some touchwood he brought me today… In the evening Peter Adams and I balanced accounts… Rec’d by oatmeal at sundry times 3.18.9; remains due 5.5.0¼ for which I received his note of hand dated today, payable to me or order on demand. Thomas Davy and I played at cribbage in the evening; I won 6d. Sat up till near 1 o’clock.

Paid for 6 whitings 3d. Paid Dame Cornwell for 1 pr white yarn hose 3/-. Moses came over and drank tea with us and stayed till 7 o’clock. Thomas Davy came and stayed the evening til1 10 o’clock. We played at cribbage. I won 1d.

Myself and brother at church in the morning; the text in the 30th verse of the 18th chapter of the prophecy of Ezekiel: “Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord God. Repent and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.” We had a brief read for the relief of the Philippine colony in Turkish Moldavia for about £2500. I collected upon the brief 2/6, and 6d I gave myself makes together collected in the whole on this brief 3/-.
Bett Carman dined with me on some cold roast beef and green salad. Myself, brother and servant at church in the afternoon; the text in the 6th and 7th verses of the 5th chapter of the Book of Job: “Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground; Yet man is born unto trouble as the sparks fly upward.” Mrs Carman, Bett Carman and my late servant Mary Martin (who came to see me between churchtimes) drank tea with me. In the evening Thomas Davy, myself and Thomas Durrant took a walk to see Sam Jenner, who is very ill with an ague. Came home again very sober about 9:20.
