At home all day. After schooltime hilled up my beans and peas. My wife went to see Mrs Porter. In the evening posted part of my day book. After supper read part of Tournefort’s Voyage into the Levant.

At home all day and busy; and nothing more of moment. Paid Master Baker 2/6 for the burying Mr Thompsett.

Thomas Davy and myself went to Lewes. Not at church all day. Spent 3/-. Came home in the evening, not sober.

At home all day and very busy. Rec’d of Frances Cole 3/1 in full. Paid for grinding razors etc. 11d. Nothing more of moment.

At home all day. Drew on Messrs Margesson and Collison to Mr George Otway 30 days’ Date for £10.

At home all day. Rec’d of John Jones 2.0.2 in full for South Malling parish bill dated, with a receipt on it, the 28th of March. Paid Thomas Burfield 28/- in goods for 4 dozen of beehives.
Thursday, April 24 1755
At home all day. After dinner posted my day book. Rec’d of Sam Jenner 0.4.2 in full; received of Fendal Vine 11/6 in full for Joseph Page. After supper finished reading The Black Prince, and think it as good a play as I ever read.

At home all day; very busy. After supper read part of the 2nd volume of Tournefort’s Voyage into the Levant.
Saturday, April 26 1755
At home all day; very busy. Paid Richard Hope 0.2.0¾ for a sparerib, weight 8¼ lbs. After supper read part of Tournefort’s Voyage. Paid 12d for bread etc.
Sunday, April 27 1755
At home all day but not at church. Mr Tucker came to see me. I lent him in cash 3.3.0. After Mr Tucker went away my wife and I went for a walk. Called and stayed some time at John Watford’s.
