Not at church all day. Mr Tucker and William Turner dined with me and stayed the afternoon. About 5:30 Mr Tucker and I went to Lewes. I came home about 9:10; spent nothing.

At home all day. Paid Francis Smith 4.18.0 for the note of hand I gave him the 13th. Nothing more of moment.
Received 12d by Rippington’s two boys in full for their week’s schooling.

At home all the forenoon; in the afternoon I was sent for to Framfield concerning Cornwell’s being a-going to build up an outlet adjoining to my mother’s house. Came home about 7 o’clock. I met at Framfield E. and T. Ovendean.

At home all day. Paid Clymson 8/- for 2 dozen boys’ tan gloves. This day balanced with Mrs Mary Virgoe and paid her in cash 13/9 and my note of hand £3, which is in full to this day.

Friday, June 20 1755
At home all day. Mr Humphrey and Mr Robert Noakes of Horsham called on me. This day being my birthday, I treated my scholars with about 5 quarts of strong beer.
Had an issue cut in my leg. Paid Joseph Fuller for 3¾ lbs of the scrag end of a neck of mutton 11d. This day I was taken very ill.

At home all day. Continued very ill. Paid Joseph Fuller 3/1 for a breast of veal, weight 10¾ lbs.
Sunday, June 22 1755
No churching here. In the morning Mr Tucker and Mr Aldersey came to see me. They informed me of the death of William Hay Esq. They went away about 7 o’clock. I paid Joseph Smith 6/8, which sum Francis Smith paid to Messrs Durnford’s for me, and in full.
Made Mrs Porter a present of a basket of strawberries.

At home all day. Rec’d 6/- of Rippingtons in full for 1 week’s schooling, due on Saturday. Paid 42/- for 2 tubs brandy.

At home all day. Paid Joseph Fuller for a sheep’s heart and ½ lb mutton 2½d.
