…This day balanced accounts with John Browne and received of him in cash 0.18.6 in full to this day except 1 shroud, sheet and pillow which he had today, value 15/6; viz.,

We dined on some mutton broth, a piece of beef boiled and potatoes. Molly and Bett Fuller drank tea at our house. In the evening received a receipt from Messrs Margesson and Collison for the sum of 17.19.6, which sum was paid them the 12th instant by Mr Laugham by the order and on the account of Joseph Fuller Jr, but for my use. I accordingly took the receipt and gave Joseph Fuller my note of hand for the same sum, payable to him or order on demand.

In the morning walked up to Thomas Fuller’s to tell him I had received Osborne’s money. In the evening walked down to John Browne’s in company with Thomas Davy to inform him on a more strict examination of his account I found he had made a mistake of 3/6 to his prejudice. Came home about 9:45.

After breakfast walked over to Framfield to see my mother, whom I found extremely ill, and I think like to hold it but a very little time. I dined at my mother’s in company with my brother Richard… I also received of my mother by my brother in cash £15, which sum I am to pay in London for her. I stayed and drank tea at my mother’s and come home about 5:45… In the evening I went down to Mr Porter’s with some silver and stayed till near 9 o’clock…

…We dined on the remains of Wednesday’s dinner with the addition of a light pudding, potatoes and parsnips. In the afternoon my wife went up to see Mrs Fuller. At home all day.

Paid Thomas Cornwell in cash 4/8 for 1 bushel flour… In the forenoon went to Lewes on a horse lent me by Mr Ben Shelley. I gave Mr Sam Durrant in cash £70 and received of him one bill on Sir Joseph Hankey and partners… value £130, and for the remainder (£60) I gave him my note of hand, payable to him or order on demand with interest.

I came home about 4:45 without dining anywhere… Paid Messrs Richards and Comber 4/4 for 1 m 6d nails bought of them today…

…My wife and self at church in the morning… We dined om a suet pudding, a piece of boiled beef; parsnips and potatoes. After dinner I set out for London. I called at Framfield and rec’d of my mother one bill on Mr Ed Pollard at the Swan Inn, Southwark… value £15. I lodged at the Bull at East Grinstead where I met my father Slater. I received of him to pay in London of his account 2 bank bills of £20 each, and 13/6 in cash. My father stayed there all night…

About 6:20 I set out for London. Breakfasted at the Bell at Godstone; got into London about 11:30. I dined at Mr Thomas Standing’s on a piece of fresh salmon boiled and some minced veal. Drank tea with Mr Margesson, and spent the evening and supped with Mr Sterry, where I also lodged… Looked out goods today at Levy’s, Gore’s, Crowley’s etc.

…Paid Gore and Perchard 5/- for a Gunter’s 4-rod chain… I breakfasted at Margesson and Collison’s, dined at Barlow and Wigginton’s on a leg of pork roasted and apple-sauce and supped at Mr Neatby’s and spent part of the evening there. The remaining part at Mr Sterry’s, where I lodged. Spent 2d.

…Received of Mr Norfolk, pewterer, in cash 0.17.0 for goods sold to him today; viz.,

To 15 3/8 lbs pewter, which was  my mother’s	0.7.8

Rec’d of Mr Nuns in cash 0.16.2 for…3 lbs brass…and 2¼ lbs copper… I then paid him…for one tea kettle, 0.9.6; for 2 pound-weights, 0.2.0; for 1 half-pound weight, 0.0.6; for 1 quarter ditto, 0.0.3. Rec’d of Mr Corderoy in cash 1.0.6…for horse-hair delivered to him today. Rec’d of Messrs Thomson and West in cash 4.15.0, which was the money they sold a pocket of hops belonging to Joseph Fuller for. Rec’d of Gore and Perchard for [horns] 15d… About 2:45 I came out of London and thank God arrived safe at home about 10:45… The following is the true state on my journey in regard to all my disbursements etc… [total] £251.12.1…

At home all day… Mrs Vine drank tea with us. In the afternoon sent our servant to Framfield, who brought me word my mother was rather worse.

In the forenoon went down into Lucas’s land to see a pond fished… Went down to Jones’s about an hour in the evening and smoked a pipe with one Mr William Cooper, hosier at Leicester. Came home about 9:10.
