Monday, September 5 1763

I dined on the remains of yesterday’s dinner with some cucumbers. At home all day, but not very busy. In the evening wrote my London letters.

Tuesday, September 6 1763

…I dined on a lamb’s heart pie and cucumbers. Rec’d of Mrs Browne in cask 2.8.0 in full for 2 years’ interest due on a bond to my brother William the 5th July last.

Mrs Browne, Mrs Hutson, Mrs Fuller, Fanny Weller and Mr Gilbert drank tea with me. Fanny Weller took part of my servant’s bed. At home all day and pretty busy. Mr Gilbert smoked a pipe with me in the evening.

Thursday, September 8 1763

I dined on the remains of yesterday’s dinner with some cucumbers. At home all day but not very busy. In the afternoon, happening to go down to Mrs Fuller’s about tea time, I stayed and drank tea there.

Friday, September 9 1763

I dined on a piece of pork boiled, an apple a pudding and carrots. At home all day and but very little to do. In the evening read part of The London Magazine for August.

Saturday, September 10 1763

I dined on the remains of yesterday’s dinner. At home all day and not at all busy, nay so far from being busy that I had very little to do. Paid Thomas Tulley 14/- in full for 1 dozen pattens and 1 dozen clogs received of him today. Lent John Nutley in cash half a guinea.

Sunday, September 11 1763

Myself and servant at church in the morning. I dined on a piece of beef boiled, an apple pudding and carrots. After dinner set out for Horsted Church, but there being no service, I stayed and smoked a pipe or two with my uncle Hill. I drank tea there and came home about 9:30. A very remarkable wet day the greatest part of it.

Monday, September 12 1763

I dined on the remains of yesterday’s dinner with the addition of some cucumbers. In the afternoon walked down to Halland where I stayed and smoked several pipes of tobacco with Mr Coates. Came home about 6:20… In the evening wrote my London letters.

Tuesday, September 13 1763

…I dined on part of a leg of mutton roasted in the oven. At home all day and very little to do. My brother came over in the afternoon, but did not stop.

Wednesday, September 14 1763

I dined on the remains of yesterday’s dinner with the addition of some cucumbers. In the afternoon walked up to Mr Piper’s, but did not stay. Very little to do all day in the shop.
