We spent 3/6 each on the parish account and 12d apiece afterwards, and also raised a subscription for a poor person to whom I gave 12d. Sunday, December 9 1764

Myself at church in the morning… After churchtime I went home with Sam Jenner and dined with him on a breast of pork roasted and applesauce (Thomas Durrant dining with my servant on a shoulder of venison roasted).

After dinner Sam Jenner and I walked to Lewes, I in order to see a girl which I have long since had thoughts of paying my addresses to, and he for company. I was not so happy shall I say to see her, or was I unfortunate in having only my walk for my pains, which perhaps was as well.

We drank tea at Mr George Verral’s, whom I paid in cash 2.14.6 in full on my account. Paid Mr Richard Comber 12d in full on my account. We went to the Cliffe Church in the evening; where we heard a sermon preached by the Rev Mr Allen, Rector of Rottingdean, from part of Romans 12:1: “Which is your reasonable service.” We came out of church about 7:50 and came away home immediately, coming home about 10:20.

Spent today 2d. Sam Jenner came home with me and took part of my bed. A very wet forenoon, but a vastly pleasant fine afternoon and evening.
