In the morning went over to Framfield. Bought of Mr Stone at Stonebridge 11 pairs parish sheets at 10/- the pair. Sold my mother one pair at 10/6; brought home the other 10 prs.

Paid Joseph Fuller 1/6 for 2 stone 2 lbs beef. Mr Burgess and his wife here; stayed the evening. Rec’d of Gift Durrant 1.2.6 in full. Rec’d of Thomas Burfield 24 beehives.

Saturday, March 29 1755

Balanced accounts with Mr Thomas Jones the maltman at Laughton and paid him 2.8.4½ in full to this day.

I yesterday omitted to mention that I delivered Mr Coates’s bill amounting to 2.15.5½ and likewise that I gave Mrs Grace Jones a receipt on South Malling parish bill which amounted to 2.0.2¾, but I received no money by reason that a piece of 36/- was not good.

Easter Sunday, March 30 1755

In the morning sent Will to Framfield and sent by him to my mother in cash 4.19.6, which with 10/6 for the pair sheets sold her the 27th instant makes in all 5.10.0 which she is to pay Mr Will Stone of Stonebridge, and it will be in full for the 11 pairs of sheets bought of him the 27th instant. Gave Will 21d to pay for a bond and charges of going to Lewes (but he got none).

At church in the forenoon; the text, the 4th verse of the 15th chapter of 1st Epistle to the Corinthians. In the afternoon went over with Ed Smith to Waldron. Was at church; the text, 7th verse, 1st chapter, 1st Epistle to the Thessalonians.

Rec’d of Joseph Fitness 5/3¼ in full and received of Sam Slater 4.14.4¼ in full. Sam Slater Jr came in the afternoon.

Monday, March 31 1755

At home all day and very busy. My wife went to Hartfield. Rec’d of Sam Lund 15/- in full. Rec’d of Thomas Osborne 1.11.4¾ in full.

Thomas Davy here in the evening; played at cribbage; won of him 6d. Gave my wife 5/-. Ordered Margesson & Co. to pay Crowley 4.15.6.

Tuesday, April 1 1755

Sent Frank Smith by his man 16.10.0 which he is to pay in London for me (see Saturday). Rec’d of Will Rice on account 6.6.0. Rec’d of Elizabeth Henly 17/- in full.

Mr Tucker came to see me. Went home in the evening. Will Cripps went away. Spent etc. 18d. Went to bed not sober.
 

Thursday, April 3 1755

At home all day. Paid Clymson in money 0.9.6 and by goods 7/6 which makes 17/- and is in full for 24 pairs men’s outseamed tan [gloves] 12/- and one dozen stay skins 5/-, received today. Nothing more of moment.
