Monday, April 7 1755
Began to teach school. Rec’d of Richard Prall 1.16.11¾ in full. Rec’d of Edward Martin 17/- in full. Rec’d of Frank Smith a receipt from Margesson and Collison for £10, and five pounds in cash, together with 30/- he kept on his own account, makes 16.10.0 and is just the money I sent him by his man on Monday the 31st of March. I gave him again in cash £30 to pay to Messrs Margesson & Co. for me, and likewise paid him 10/- on account for carriage, which with the 30/- he kept makes 40/- on the carriage account. Paid him 2/6 for a pocketbook; paid him 21d for lemons, both of which he bought in London. Drew on Messrs Margesson and Collison to John Crouch or order, 21 days’ date, val: £10.
This day Richard Hope and Sarah Weller were married. Very busy all day. Mr Slater went to Lewes; nothing more of moment.
Tuesday, April 8 1755
At home all day. Rec’d of Elizabeth Vine 9/- in full. Paid Ann Smith in goods 5/- and is in full of all demands to this day.
Wednesday, April 9 1755
At home all day; nothing more of moment only being busy all day. In the evening papered up tobacco and cut out round frocks. After supper read part of Tournefort’s Voyage.
Thursday, April 10 1755
Rec’d of Ben Mott 6/6 in full. After schooltime, went with John Watford to meet Richard Carter Jr and John Alchorne of Lane End to sign a bond from John Watford to them, but Mr Alchorne not being there could not do it. John Watford and I came home by Framfield street. I drank tea at my mother’s and came home in the evening.

After school time went with John Watford to Richard Carter’s, where Mr John Alchorne and Richard Carter signed a bond to John Watford Jr for £50. Came home in the evening about 8:50.
Saturday, April 12 1755
Paid Joseph Fuller 4/3 for 2 stone 1 lb beef. Busy all day. Lucy Durrant came here in the evening.
Sunday, April 13 1755
At church in the forenoon; the text, 119th Psalm, verse 165. In the evening Thomas Davy and I went down to the keeper’s. Came home about 8:30.
Monday, April 14 1755
Received of Mr Thomas Chatfield 2/- on Mr Thomas Thompsett’s account in full. Received of Peter Cornwell 33/- in full. Sent by Frank Smith to Messrs Margesson and Collison in cash £24; drew on then to Messrs Goff and Kendall, 28 days’ date, for £18; likewise to Messrs Middleton & Stepple, 30 days’ date, for £7 in full; and likewise ordered them to pay Mr Turner Bristow — in full.

At home all day except being at school. In the evening wrote out several bills; after supper read part of Edward the Black Prince.
